2011 Art Sale
| Louise Price
I have pursued my fascination with making art for the past 20 years. My interest in the arts was fostered by both my grandmothers who were accomplished painters. As well as my mother who did fine painted crafts. I have experimented with a variety if media over that time. I recreate the places I live and play in my watercolors using a palette inspired by the colors that surround me. I graduated from Colby College and currently live in Freeport, Maine with my husband and two daughters, both artists. Louise Price Watercolors | Magnolia by Louise Price |

My interest in painting began in elementary school: I loved the texture of the oil paints, the colors, and the challenge of mark-making. I would have continued painting, but other demands intervened like academics, piano, bassoon, and golf lessons. I earned a PhD in Psychology and established a 20-year practice in Portland. All the while, the painting urge lay dormant until I registered for a class at Maine College of Art in 2001 where I revived my passion. I closed my practice and continue taking classes at MECA plus lessons on Monhegan, in Tuscany, and Freeport! A member of the MECA Board of Trustess, I am happy to support the education of students who pursue their art interest at any age! Judy Kane | Cheese Grater by Judy Kane |
Diana Johnson, PSA The focus of my work is the Maine landscape. I look for places that elicit both a sense of rest and rejuvenation while paying attention to the fluid effects of radiant energy on land, water, and air. The more a painting seems to emit energy, as if from the paper or canvas itself, the happier I am with the results. I try to suggest, with pigment, the essential vitality and liveliness that is inherent in tranquil, peaceful places. Honor and Awards I am honored to retain Signature Member status with the Pastel Society of America. My three most recent awards for paintings included in juried shows are:

Michelle Zelkowitz Michelle Zelkowitz is an artist-educator interested in how humans observe their environment. Her current work focuses on divergent visions and narratives. At first glance the work is meant to be ordinary, yet aesthetically pleasing. However, with an insightful eye, the viewer may be pleasantly surprised by unexpected images, and the stories they tell. | Abbie Sewall 17 Bailey Farm Rd. Freeport, ME. 04032 207.749.9505 abbie.sewall@gmail.com Practicing photography since high school, Abbie has witnessed many photo-cultural changes during her life, film to digital notwithstanding. Working for the Brunswick Times Record in the late 1970's resulted in a book called The Voice of Maine, (Thorndike Press, 1983), co-authored with William Pohl. After six years of research + printing glass plates, Abbie completed a photo-biography of her great-great grandmother, an early Maine photographer, Message Through Time: The Photographs of Emma D. Sewall 1836 - 1919, (Harpswell Press). Abbie is Emma in blue jeans. Her photographic business (1990 - 2005) included stock photography, weddings + portraits. She has been a contributing photographer to Getty Images for over fifteen years. I agree with Frances Ford Coppola's statement, "...beauty + content are one + the same." I plan to find beautiful content for the rest of my days. Golden Bird Takes Flight is about capturing the look + feel of uplifted spirit, something I aspire to on a daily basis. | Golden Bird Takes Flight by Abbie Sewall |
